A greater Desire2Learn ?

The Tennessee Board of Regents, (TBR) has decided to discontinue the licensing arrangement they had with WebCT, and have decided to switch to a new CMS (course management system) called Desire2Learn. To facilitate this transition, a Transition Team has been formed to plan and implement a systematic and system-wide conversion of all online courses to Desire2Learn.

To the best of my understanding, the plan is to convert all courses from WebCT to D2L by the beginning of the Fall 07 Semester, with discontinuance of any WebCT courses by the end of 2007.

The TBR has setup a TBR eLearning Wiki for dissemination of information regarding the switch over from WebCT to Desire2Learn. Judy Lowe ( Assistant Vice President ) from CDE is one of the folks involved with the TBR Transition Team, and has several information sessions scheduled around convocation. Greg Jackson (Director Academic Computing) is one of the members of the Chattanooga State Transition Team.

Judy Lowe reported that this will be an excellent opportunity for Chattanooga State to switch to a more powerful and user friendly CMS, which will hopefully enable even more faculty to participate in "online course creation".
