Viruses, Worms and Spyware

Picture representing a VirusYou have to protect your computer from Worms, Viruses, and Spyware. At Chattanooga State, your computer comes pre-installed with anti-virus software called Command Antivirus Software or F-Prot.

So then what is Spyware? Spyware is software installed without your permission that tracks everything you do on your computer. This includes websites you visit, applications you use, how often you use your computer, and anything you type.

According to Dell, over 90% of PCs have spyware. So how can you tell if you have spyware? Well your computer will work slower, your Browser homepage may change, you may suddenly notice lots of Pop-Up windows, your Browser goes to the wrong pages, web content may get changed, etc.

To protect against and remove spyware you can download free software, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Spybot Search and Destroy. It is a good idea to have more than one anti-spyware program installed on your machine, as just one piece of software may not detect all the spyware on your machine.
